The Challenges We’re Tackling Together.
Youth Unemployment.
Every year, around one million young people enter the job market in Tanzania, yet formal employment opportunities remain scarce. Challenges such as lack of access to capital, skills mismatches, and systemic barriers hinder their progress. Women and girls face even greater hurdles, including early marriages, teenage pregnancies, and limited access to education. Through innovative programs, Restless Development equips young people with the entrepreneurial and employability skills they need to create opportunities, provide for their families, and contribute to their communities.
Gender Inequality and Early Marriages.One in three girls in Tanzania is married before the age of 18, often resulting in school dropouts and limited life opportunities. Girls like Ilumbo face barriers such as societal stigma, forced exclusion from education, and rigid gender norms. Restless Development works to break these cycles, advocating for girls’ education and empowering them to reclaim their futures.
The Climate Crisis.
Young people are at the forefront of the fight against climate change. From raising awareness to implementing sustainable practices, our programs provide youth with the tools and knowledge to address this urgent global issue.
Sexual and Reproductive Health Rights.
In many communities, girls and women lack access to essential sexual and reproductive health information and services. We provide critical education to help young people make informed decisions, reduce stigma, and create healthier, more equitable communities.

Spotlight: Ilumbo’s Story of Change.
At just 19 years old, Ilumbo has overcome immense challenges. After becoming pregnant and dropping out of secondary school, she faced stigma and uncertainty about her future. With the support of Restless Development’s Youth Can Project, Ilumbo learned business skills, received a sewing machine, and started her own tailoring business with a modest investment of just 50,000 TZS (approximately £20).
Today, Ilumbo earns a net profit of 20,000 TZS per week, enabling her to provide for her child and even plan for her return to school at a Vocational Training Institution to further expand her business skills.
But Ilumbo’s impact doesn’t stop there. She shares her knowledge with other women and girls, teaching them about family planning, menstrual health, and the importance of education. Her efforts are already creating ripples of change in her community, reducing child marriage rates and empowering parents to prioritize girls’ education.
Ilumbo’s story is a testament to the resilience and potential of young people when given the right support. With your help, we can support more young women like her to break free from the barriers holding them back.
