GreenShift: Circularity of Plastic Waste for Net-Zero Carbon Nepal project aims to promote the Circular Economy in Madhesh, Lumbini, and Bagmati Province.
The project focuses on interventions for plastic waste collection by mobilizing civil societies of waste workers, waste enterprises, youth advocacy and sustainable product designing and packaging.
With the active involvement of the Waste Workers, women, and marginalized groups, Civil Society Organizations of Waste Workers, youth groups, SMEs, local, provincial, and federal government bodies, the project will be carried out for four years. The activities have been envisioned to create a synergy for the development of policy formulation at the local, provincial, and federal levels of the government. These activities are aimed towards the transition from a linear economy to a circular economy.
The project was launched on 21 February 2024 in the regional Bharatpur office of CREASION. GreenShift Nepal aims to support a fair shift to a circular economy and promote the circularity of plastic waste for Net-Zero Carbon Nepal.

Project Launch.
The launch was held in CREASION’s Regional Office in Chitwan and was graced by prominent figures such as Minister Masina Khadka, Ministry of Forest and Environment, Bagmati Province, Prashant Bista, Mayor of Nepalgunj Sub-Metropolitan City, Ganesh Shah, Former Minister for Environment, Science and Technology, Eloisa Astudillo, Deputy Head of Cooperation, European Union, Nalini Paul, International Director Restless Development, Anand Mishra, Founder and President of CREASION, Sujata Koirala, General Secretary of CREASION, and Pradip Khatiwada Executive Director Youth Innovation Lab. We were also joined by our partners from Impact Hub and ADRA Nepal.
Ten different climate-smart entrepreneur stalls, including Kanduk Industry, Eco-Revive, and Kleanit Nepal also showcased their eco-friendly and sustainable products. One of the stalls also displayed jackets made from 100 per cent recycled PET bottles.
Sangita Maharjan, Programme Coordinator at Restless Development Nepal gave a presentation on the component Restless Development is leading on namely Climate Smart Schools and Youth Advocacy Group. Restless Development Nepal will lead the establishment of 36 Climate Smart Schools and is supporting young leaders to become responsible towards a circular economy to build a sustainable future . The project duration is four-year.
Nalini Paul, International Director at Restless Development also spoke at the launch who highlighted the importance of youth leadership and powershifting, stressing Restless Development’s work in Nepal and around the world.
The project is funded by the European Union (EU) and the implementation is led by CREASION through the consortium partners Restless Development Nepal, and Youth Innovation Lab (YI-Lab).
