Democracy Moves Annual Conference 2024

Youth Power for Inclusive Democracy: Exploring New Innovations in Evolving Civic and Governance Spaces

As democracies around the world face unprecedented challenges, the Democracy Moves 2024 Annual Conference arrives at a crucial moment. With authoritarianism on the rise and civil liberties shrinking, there is growing disillusionment with democratic systems. Economic and political discontent fuels scepticism about the efficacy of democracy, particularly among youth, women, and marginalised groups who are increasingly excluded from political decision-making spaces.

In 2024, a year marked by a record number of elections, the need for young voices in governance is more critical than ever. This year’s conference theme, “Youth Power for Inclusive Democracy: Exploring New Innovations in Evolving Civic and Governance Spaces,” aims to address these pressing issues by providing a platform for young leaders to engage, reflect, and generate ideas in support of good governance.

Conference Highlights:

  • Participate in a dynamic mix of in-person and virtual workshops, panel discussions, and interactive sessions.
  • Spotlight on innovative projects led by young activists from around the world.
  • Strengthen regional membership and chapters through in-person team-building activities and networking sessions.
  • Highlight successful initiatives by Democracy Moves and Youth Collective Member Networks.
  • Foster collaborations with like-minded organisations to broaden the Democracy Moves network.
  • Highlight challenges to global democratisation and facilitate constructive conversations among young leaders.

About Democracy Moves:

Democracy Moves is a growing global network of young leaders dedicated to fighting for democracy, human rights, and social justice. Initially incubated at the SNF Agora Institute at Johns Hopkins, it now collaborates as a formal project of Restless Development. Democracy Moves connects young activists from Africa, Asia, Latin America, and the Middle East/North Africa region, allowing them to learn from each other and implement solutions to pressing challenges such as armed conflict, corruption, gender discrimination, and voter apathy.
