A new report from the Youth Think Tank.
The world is advancing every day in the fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) and young people are a driving force in this sector. However, not all young people are represented equally in STEM careers – the field is dominated by young men.
This youth-led research, conducted by the Youth Think Tank and in partnership with Mastercard Foundation, asks the question ‘What makes young women successful in STEM careers?’ by speaking to young female STEM professionals in Uganda, Kenya, Malawi, Ghana, Tanzania, Zambia and Rwanda.
With this understanding of the supportive environment needed for young women to enter the sector, and develop and grow their careers, this report calls on development practitioners, donors, governments and private sector actors to provide what young women say they need to make opportunities more accessible, and grow representation in the field.
