12 Schools Onboarded for GreenShift’s Climate Smart Schools Initiative

In a major stride towards promoting environmental stewardship in Nepal’s education sector, 12 community schools from Bharatpur Metropolitan City, Kohalpur Municipality, and Janakpurdham Sub-Metropolitan City have been onboarded for the Climate Smart Schools (CSS) initiative under Year 2 of the GreenShift Project. This initiative, supported by the European Union, aims to integrate sustainable waste management practices into schools, promote circular economy principles, and empower students as climate leaders.

The Onboard Process

The onboarding process was comprehensive and inclusive, focusing on schools with a strong commitment to sustainability, inclusion, and ongoing waste management efforts. It began with extensive outreach and orientation sessions in the target municipalities, ensuring that schools fully understood the initiative’s goals. This outreach was carried out in close collaboration with the Education Departments of the respective municipalities. Schools interested in participating submitted Letters of Interest, which were carefully reviewed by a selection committee. Following a thorough evaluation, four schools from each municipality were selected.
