Dialogue 1: Building Resilience Against Landslides in the Far-West
The series kicked off on July 29, 2024 with a discussion on “Understanding Landslides for a Safer Tomorrow.” Led by climate change and disaster risk reduction (DRR) expert Raju Jati, the session highlighted the growing threat of landslides in the region. Jati offered valuable insights on community preparedness, early warning systems, and long-term strategies for building resilience. Participants gained practical knowledge on how to protect themselves from these natural hazards.
Dialogue 2: Exploring the Intersection of Climate Change and Gender
The second episode, held on August 22nd, delved into “The Intersectional Impacts of Climate Change on Gender.” Shakti Gurung, an expert in DRR, climate change, and gender equality, led the discussion. The session focused on how climate change disproportionately affects vulnerable populations, particularly women in the Far-West. Gurung emphasized the importance of integrating gender-sensitive policies into climate adaptation and DRR initiatives.
Dialogue 3: Youth Leadership in Climate Action
The most recent episode, held on September 25th, focused on “Role of Young People in Climate Change.” Sailendra Dongol, Digital Communications consultant at Restless Development, led the discussion. Highlighting the crucial role of young people in tackling climate change, Dongol explored ways to mobilize youth for impactful action. Participants learned about inspiring youth-led projects in the region and were encouraged to become changemakers within their own communities.
This ongoing series provides a vital platform for knowledge sharing, discussion, and collaboration on critical issues facing the Far-Western region. This Far-Western Dialogue series aims to build a more resilient and sustainable future for the Sudurpashchim Province by empowering communities, particularly youth and marginalized groups.
