Young people leading climate change mitigation and adaptation.
Restless Development Nepal through a strong collaborative consortium partnership with Youth Innovation Lab, Creasion and Centre for Disaster Management Study, has initiated a climate change adaptation and mitigation focused project.
Engaging Youth to support and capacitate the local governments to develop Local Disaster and Climate Resilient Plans (LDCRP) of three targeted provinces – Madhesh, Karnali and Suddurpaschim is one of the main objectives of the Project. The project is funded by European Union and is implemented for a period of years starting 2022.
Young people between 15-29 years of age are the target group of the project. “Youth engagement and leadership to support local government who emerge as change makers for their community development enhancing the national level priorities”, is the main highlight of the project.
Nepali Youth in Climate Action and Green Growth will work on recovery of Nepal through youth engagement in disaster and climate governance, entrepreneurship, and advocacy.
The project plans to capacitate young people and provide them with a platform where they can work for development process and towards post COVID recovery of the environment. It engages the young people of Nepal in green growth, environmental protection and combatting the climate change.
This Projects expects to:
- Localise Disaster Risk Reduction and Climate Change Adaptation plans, policies at the local level through the involvement of youth in policymaking, planning, and promote data-driven decision making.
- Engage young people in climate-smart entrepreneurial ventures to promote green jobs, enhance their livelihood, develop resiliency at local levels, and support them through professional mentorship.
- Develop a pool of data-driven climate advocates using low-cost technological tools to raise climate change issues in the country.
