Watch Party at Gully Youth Lab

Gully Youth Lab

The Gully Youth Lab (GYL) is a youth-centred initiative that supports adolescents and young people living in underserved urban communities to build knowledge, leadership, and agency. Many young people in these communities face barriers to accessing accurate health information, safe learning spaces, leadership opportunities, and meaningful participation in decisions that affect their lives. Social norms, stigma, and limited opportunities for dialogue often further restrict their ability to make informed choices and contribute to their communities.

GYL creates inclusive spaces where young people can learn, lead, and take action on issues that matter to them. Through leadership development, participatory learning, community engagement, and youth-led initiatives, the programme strengthens young people’s confidence, skills, and ability to drive positive change.

The programme focuses on key areas that influence adolescent and youth wellbeing, including Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH), Human Papillomavirus (HPV) awareness and prevention, Technology-Facilitated Gender-Based Violence (TFGBV), digital safety, anaemia prevention, menstrual health, and youth leadership. These themes are integrated across youth engagement activities, community dialogues, social action projects, and youth-led research and evidence generation.

By amplifying young people’s voices and strengthening connections between youth, families, and communities, GYL aims to create safer, healthier, and more enabling environments where young people can exercise their rights, make informed decisions, and contribute meaningfully to community development.
