Spotlight Initiative

ELIMINATING VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN AND GIRLS

Background

The Spotlight Initiative, launched in 2017 with seed funding from the European Union, aims to eliminate violence against women and girls (EVAWG) and accelerate progress on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Spotlight Initiative 2.0 is a continuation of the first phase, building on its success as a comprehensive, multi-partner effort. It serves as a “UN Reform Demonstration Fund” to promote a more coordinated and effective UN development system.

Key Features of the Spotlight Initiative Model.

The Spotlight Project is a multifaceted three-year initiative aimed at promoting a comprehensive and transformative approach to eliminating violence against

women and girls (VAWG), reflected in its four key outcome areas:

  • Enhancing the enabling environment for violence prevention and response through strengthened legal, policy, institutional and data frameworks.
  • Preventing violence and addressing its roots by challenging harmful social norms and behaviors across all levels of society.
  • Ensuring survivors have access to high-quality, consistent support by improving essential services.
  • Empowering civil society to build effective social movements for sustainable change.

The Spotlight Initiative achieved 100% attendance at chiefdom inception meetings in Falaba, securing formal pledges from religious and traditional leaders to enforce child protection by-laws and provide land for the construction of a new Community Learning Centre (CLC).
