Following an internal recruitment process, Restless Development has appointed two interim CEOs to co-lead the agency while we search for our next permanent CEO/s.
Our interim Co-CEOs are Alex Kent, current Strategy Director, and Kate Muhwezi, current Programmes and Operations Director.
“I’m really pleased to announce Alex and Kate as our new interim CEO. All of the applicants we met from across Restless were incredibly inspiring, a real reflection of brilliant, inclusive leadership. Thank you to everyone that participated; for your ideas, sharing, feedback and support. It could not have been a more humbling experience, and I’m so proud of this community and the spirit of great leadership that we represent.
“What was clear through this process is that we cannot stand still, we must keep pushing, driving our vision of youth leadership forward, and continue building new partnerships for our future. I feel absolutely confident in Alex, Kate and the entire team in leading Restless Development.
“During the recruitment process, one young leader reminded me that this is not about the strength or leadership of a single person, or a pair, but the whole team. Over the coming months, years, we need everyone to be playing their part. We have a clear purpose to make sure young people are supported to lead change – let’s collectively drive this forward.”
Charlotte Eaton, Global Board Chair
This recruitment follows Perry Maddox stepping down from his CEO post at Restless Development. His last day will be the 19th August.
How long will the interim CEOs be in their position?
Our interim CEOs have started in their new position, which will last for up to six months. Kate and Alex will co-lead as joint CEOs, working four days a week each, giving us the opportunity to explore a more inclusive form of leadership.
What is the recruitment process for a new CEO?
We will soon launch an external recruitment process for a permanent CEO/s, casting the net far and wide with a view to encouraging young leaders and leaders from around the world to apply.
We recently ran a global consultation, asking staff and young people to give their thoughts on what the profile of our future CEO should be, and will be using this in the recruitment process.
Who do I ask if I have any questions?
If you have specific questions or comments about our transition between CEOs please contact firstname.lastname@example.org.
How is Restless Development led and governed?
We have one global leadership team, called the Restless Leadership Team, and Hub leadership teams. These teams work alongside our global and national boards, providing strategic direction, and oversight over areas such as risk, impact and performance.
Our Restless Leadership Team is made of leaders from six countries, and is majority women and majority people of colour. Three young leaders from Peru, India and Zambia join two Hub Directors in Zimbabwe and India, and our co-lead CEOs and two Directors based in the UK, putting distributed, diverse leaders at the heart of how we lead.
