Young Feminist Manifesto

Towards Greater Youth-Led Accountability at the UN.

The Generation Equality Forum (GEF) is a major advocacy platform seeking to accelerate Gender Equality around the world. The registration for the GEF Paris Forum on June 30-July 2nd, 2021 is open for all youth-led organisations to participate remotely.

While UN Spaces are strategic spaces for civil society, governments, and (increasingly) the private sector to connect and push the needle on human rights – there’s still a lot of work to be done to address issues of power and representation.

Youth engagement and leadership must be prioritised if the GEF is to be truly owned by civil society. Restless Development knows that young people are at the front-line of demanding human rights globally and they must also be at the table, armed with decision-making power, to shape the strategies, processes, and implementation of human rights frameworks.

The Young Feminist Manifesto for the GEF is a youth-led manifesto that demands exactly this. The manifesto was co-written by youth-led organisations participating in GEF Action Coalitions, Generation Equality Youth Task Force (YTF), young feminists from the global Civil Society Advisory Group (CSAG), and National Gender Youth Activists (NGYAs).

Its key demands include the following:

  • Youth leadership and co-ownership
  • Feminist leadership
  • Intersectionality / an intersectional approach
  • Transformative design and leadership

Restless Development endorses the Manifesto and would like to amplify this document to our network of youth-led organizations!
