‘Youth Principles’ launched to address problems in education and work.

12 young researchers have launched ‘Youth Principles’ to help address problems young people face in education and work brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The principles were launched at the Youth at Heart Virtual Forum in November, which was hosted by the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs and is available to watch on their YouTube Channel. The event drew more than 1,700 attendees from over 75 organisations and 100 countries.

The Youth Principles were created in partnership with Restless Development by 12 young co-researchers from Sahel, Horn of Africa and MENA regions. They designed the methodology, collected the data, analysed and presented their findings. The principles were endorsed at the forum by Alan Jope, CEO of Unilever; Henrietta Fore, Exec. Director of Unicef; Mari Elka Pangestu, Managing Director of Development Policy and Partnerships at the World Bank; Jayathma Wickramanayake, United Nations Secretary-General’s Envoy on Youth; and Minister Sigrid Kaag, Minister for Foreign Trade and Development Cooperation.

Help promote the principles.

What’s next?

The Youth at Heart Virtual Forum was just the start of the conversation. Young people have made it clear that they have a lot to say on building a better and resilient world, and on the future of work and education in society. Now is the time for action.

It’s Our Future, the report

The creation of the principles emerged from research led by the co-researchers, which is shared in this full report: ‘It’s Our Future’.
