GREENSHIFT Nepal Project National Launch Held in Chitwan

On February 21, 2024, the GREENSHIFT Nepal Project was officially launched at CREASION’s Regional Office in Chitwan. The event was graced by distinguished guests, including Hon’ble Minister Masina Khadka, Ministry of Forest and Environment, Bagmati Province; Prashant Bista, Mayor of Nepalgunj Sub-Metropolitan City; Ganesh Shah, Former Minister for Environment, Science, and Technology; Eloisa Astudillo, Deputy Head of Cooperation, European Union; Nalini Paul, International Director at Restless Development; Anand Mishra, Founder and President of CREASION; Sujata Koirala, General Secretary of CREASION; and Pradip Khatiwada, Executive Director of Youth Innovation Lab. Partners from Impact Hub and ADRA Nepal were also in attendance.

The event welcomed over 150 participants from diverse sectors, including government agencies, international development partners, academics, green entrepreneurs, and youth leaders engaged in plastic waste management and circular economy initiatives. Youths and school children, key stakeholders in the project’s vision, were also present.

A highlight of the launch was the Entrepreneurs’ Corner, featuring ten climate-smart stalls from innovators such as Kanduk Industry, Eco-Revive, and Kleanit Nepal. One notable display showcased jackets made entirely from recycled PET bottles, demonstrating creative solutions for waste reduction and sustainable production.

During the program, Sangita Maharjan, Programme Coordinator at Restless Development Nepal, presented on the organization’s role in the project. Restless Development will lead the establishment of 36 Climate Smart Schools and support the formation of Youth Advocacy Groups to promote circular economy practices and build a sustainable future. The four-year initiative will focus on equipping young leaders with the skills and knowledge to drive local change.

Nalini Paul, International Director at Restless Development, emphasized the importance of youth leadership and powershifting, highlighting Restless Development’s work in Nepal and globally.

The launch also featured remarks from key partners, including representatives from the European Union Delegation, Youth Innovation Lab, Wildlife Conservation Nepal, Impact Hub, and ADRA Nepal, each sharing their perspectives on advancing circular economy and biodiversity conservation in Nepal.
