To mark Transgender Awareness Week, Transilience is proud to release Tides of Change, a short film that educates people about the challenges transgender young people face and encourages members of the public and families to be more accepting. The idea of the film was conceived by Oscar Sharples, the founder of Transilience and members of the Youth Advisory Board.
Oscar hopes the film will help to achieve the goals of the organisation. He explains: “Through this important film we want to let young trans people know they we are there for them and how we can help; counter stigma against young trans people and show just how much they are going through; and lastly to encourage young trans people to embrace the joy of being trans and celebrate themselves for who they are.”
Oscar is a final year student at the University of Cambridge and Co-founder and Director of Transilience, a grassroots organisation supporting trans youth in North Devon. With funding from the Young Gamechangers Fund, Transilience will further its mission by providing 1:1 and group support for young people and their families, and through providing certified training for professionals that come into contact with young people. This initiative aims to have a transformative impact on the lives of trans youth and we can’t wait to see it grow by leaps and bounds!
