Engaging young people in Nepal to protect the environment.
The first National kick-off meeting of Nepali Youth in Climate Action and Green Growth, a project funded by European Union was organized on March 4, 2022 in Kathmandu, Nepal.
Nepali Youth in Climate Action and Green Growth is a four year project (2022-2025) which is an initiative taken by Youth Innovation Lab with Restless Development Nepal, Creasion Nepal, and Centre for Disaster Management Studies.
This project will be focusing on three provinces of Nepal, Province No. 2, the Karnali Province and Sudurpaschim Province. It provides a platform for young people where they can put in effort and showcase their leadership skills in order to protect the environment. This project will work on the recovery of Nepal through engagement in disaster and climate governance, entrepreneurship, and advocacy.
At the kick-off meeting three organizations – Youth Innovation Lab, Oxfam, and Helvetas with their consortium partners, Restless Development Nepal, Creasion Nepal, and Centre for Disaster Management Studies gave an overview of their projects supporting young people in Nepal.
The priorities of national stakeholders on youth participation on Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR), Climate Change Adaptation (CCA), and entrepreneurship were discussed during plenary discussion with representatives from Ministry of Federal Affairs and General Administration (MoFAGA), National Disaster Risk Reduction And Management Authority (NDRRMA), Nepal Youth Council (NYC), and the European Union as the panelists.
Climate Smart entrepreneurship.
Climate Smart Entrepreneurship, a component of Nepali Youth in Climate change has officially started in Janakpur with a formal provincial kick off.
The meeting was officially inaugurated by Honorable Chief Minister Mohammad Lalbabu Raut Gaddhi, Madhesh Province. He expressed tremendous support and encouragement to promote youth in the province and displayed his commitment to support the project.
One of the main agendas for this event was to launch an idea call in Madhesh province and encourage youths of Madhesh Province to submit their climate-smart ideas.
