The GreenShift project has selected 12 new community schools from Tilotama Municipality, Ichchhakamana Rural Municipality, and Khadak Municipality under its Climate Smart Schools initiative for this year. The initiative aims to integrate climate education, sustainable waste management, and circular economy practices within schools while empowering students to become active climate advocates in their communities.
The selection process involved outreach and engagement with schools across the three municipalities, followed by the submission of Letters of Interest from interested institutions. Schools were assessed based on their motivation to implement climate-smart practices, commitment from school leadership, and their willingness to actively engage students in environmental initiatives.
Following the evaluation process, four schools from each municipality were selected, bringing the total number of Climate Smart Schools this year to twelve.

The schools will also receive financial support to implement practical climate-smart interventions such as waste segregation systems, recycling initiatives, environmental awareness campaigns, and student-led climate action projects.
By transforming schools into hubs of environmental learning and action, the GreenShift project continues to strengthen the role of young people in addressing climate challenges. Through the Climate Smart Schools initiative, students are encouraged not only to understand climate issues but also to lead solutions within their schools and communities, contributing to a more sustainable future.
