As part of the EU-funded GreenShift project, BAS Nepal organized a special event in Kohalpur Municipality to assist waste collectors and sanitation workers with essential safety and hygiene materials. The initiative was carried out in coordination with Kohalpur Municipality.
The event aimed to recognize the crucial role of sanitation workers in maintaining city cleanliness and to enhance their well-being through material support. A total of 10 long-serving waste and sanitation workers were identified with the help of the municipality. BAS Nepal, with guidance and technical support from Restless Development Nepal, coordinated closely with municipal authorities to verify the list of beneficiaries and prepare the distribution.

With financial and technical support from the GreenShift consortium, BAS Nepal prepared hygiene kits and protective equipment for distribution, including gloves, masks, and other sanitation materials essential for the daily safety of the workers. The program took place on July 21 and proceeded smoothly as planned.
According to recommendations from Kohalpur Municipality, the selected sanitation workers were Ganesh Shah, Mangal Damai, Puni Tharu, Chandra Kala BK, Mina Bhat, Soshila Tharu, Mohar Kumari Tharu, Maya Chaudhary, and Pabitra Yogi.
This initiative highlights the GreenShift project’s commitment to promoting a just transition to a circular economy by not only addressing plastic waste but also supporting the health, dignity, and rights of frontline waste workers. Through this event, Restless Development Nepal and BAS Nepal demonstrated the vital role youth-led organizations play in local environmental stewardship and social inclusion.
