Ullapool Sea Savers

Ullapool Sea Savers, a youth-led marine conservation group based in the remote North-West Highlands of Scotland, and run entirely by young people aged 7 to 17,  are on a mission to protect their local marine environment around the Wester Ross Marine Protected Area. From launching grassroots campaigns like the Drain Campaign to using boats to explore and protect the coast, their work tackles both environmental challenges and youth mental health, all powered by passion, creativity, and community support.

Now, thanks to funding from the Young Gamechangers Fund, the group can continue and expand their work. The grant will support key adult roles like youth workers and boat safety officers, ensuring young people’s ideas can be brought to life safely and sustainably.

“We can’t wait to get started with using that money to help save the seas. People protect what they love – and we show people what there is to love about the sea. Lots of new kids have just joined our group and this money is going to make a huge difference in making it possible for them to make their ideas happen.” – Abbie (12 years old) , Lead grant applicant, Ullapool Sea Savers

Driven by a mission to offer meaningful, inclusive alternatives to traditional youth activities, Ullapool Sea Savers engages young people in hands-on climate action—from idea generation to campaign delivery. Every activity is free to join, making sure that no child is excluded due to cost.
