Inclusive Sportswear CIC is a community-interest company founded by Team GB and England Hockey player Tess Howard to make sports kit more inclusive, comfortable, and accessible. The organisation tackles barriers to participation in sport, particularly for girls, non-binary individuals, and religious minorities, by advocating for policy change and providing practical guidance to schools, clubs, and governing bodies. Tess’s work has already led to changes in domestic and international hockey uniform policies, allowing women to wear shorts instead of compulsory skorts.
With YGF funding, Inclusive Sportswear will launch the Inclusive Sportswear Charter, a free digital resource providing best-practice guidance on inclusive kit policies for schools, sports bodies, and brands. The funding will support the development of an online platform, outreach efforts, and pilot projects with schools and National Governing Bodies. By ensuring sportswear policies enable participation rather than restrict it, Inclusive Sportswear aims to eliminate a key but overlooked barrier that causes many young people, especially girls, to drop out of sport.
