PLUS is a youth-led organisation dedicated to creating a safe and inclusive space for LGBTQ+ young people. Group members actively shape the focus of their sessions, contribute to the steering group of the service, and engage in advocacy efforts to highlight the challenges they face. They have spoken at public events, met with local police to discuss hate crime, and are developing partnerships with services that address exploitation. By ensuring young people lead decision-making, PLUS fosters an environment where they feel heard, supported, and empowered to drive change.
Funding allows PLUS to expand beyond group activities and strengthen its impact in education and community settings. Many members struggle with challenges in school, and they want to improve LGBTQ+ inclusion in education through awareness campaigns and tailored sessions on relationships, sexual health, and mental well-being. By increasing knowledge of LGBTQ+ issues among educators and local services, PLUS aims to reduce discrimination, improve access to support, and empower young people to advocate for lasting change in their communities.”
