The Babylon Migrants Project is a youth-led organisation dedicated to fostering community, creativity, and confidence among young refugees, asylum seekers, and migrants. Founded in 2022, it is led by young people with lived experience of migration, ensuring that participants feel understood, supported, and empowered. The project provides peer-led workshops in art forms such as photography, theatre, dance, filmmaking, and storytelling, offering young migrants a space for self-expression, skill development, and social connection.
At its core, Babylon values creativity as a tool for integration and empowerment, promoting identity, inclusion, and leadership development. Their workshops are by and for young refugees and migrants, with participants often progressing into facilitator roles, ensuring that the leadership remains representative of the communities they serve.
With YGF funding, Babylon aims to expand its workshops and launch its first-ever summer programme, providing much-needed activities and social support during school breaks. This initiative includes day trips and a four-day creative programme, giving participants opportunities for growth and cultural exploration. Additionally, Babylon will empower existing team members to step into leadership roles, strengthening the organisation’s sustainability.
The project has a profound impact on participants’ mental health, confidence, and language skills, helping them integrate into UK society while challenging negative stereotypes about refugees. Through creativity, Babylon is transforming the experience of young migrants in London, fostering a sense of belonging and resilience.
