Young people share a restless determination to address the problems that affect them the most. That’s where we come in.
Restless Development is the youth-led international development agency. Based in 10 countries across the world, our work is delivered by young people, for young people, giving them the skills and resources to deal with the main issues facing their communities and countries. Tackling unemployment, supporting young people to stay in education, giving access to sexual health services, and showing young people what their rights are, Restless Development programmes are genuinely life-changing.
Our Global Policy and Practice team has been at the forefront of some of our biggest successes – from making sure young people’s voices shaped the new Global Goals, through to changing the practice of institutions, strengthening the global youth sector, and launching innovations like our ‘Big Idea’. Now, with our new strategy in sight from October 2016, exciting growth happening across the organisation, and the new set of Global Goals entering force in January, we’re entering an era of incredible opportunity for Policy and Practice at Restless Development.
During this important period of change, the Head of Policy and Practice will lead our brilliant, young, global Policy and Practice team through significant uncertainty and opportunity by driving performance, overseeing the delivery of an existing portfolio of programmes, and making the most of new opportunities as they arise. Importantly, the Head of Policy and Practice will also deputise for the Policy and Practice Director – not only working, for the first time, with our country hubs across the globe as we grow an exciting and strategic new body of policy and practice work, but also leading and influencing senior peers across the organisation.
Our perfect candidate will be a values-driven, confident, dynamic leader who shares our commitment to youth participation and development. You’ll be passionate about performance, building effective teams, and managing complex and difficult change. As well as building your own team, you’ll get particularly excited by amplifying and joining the dots between what others in the organisation are doing. And with change on the horizon, you’re likely to be someone who enjoys flexibility and leading others through uncertainty. In return, this varied role offers an excitingly broad remit, a high level of senior level exposure (internal and external), and the opportunity to work directly with our country hubs, international units, and senior management as you grow into a senior leadership position.
