ABOUT RESTLESS DEVELOPMENT

We know young people have the power to solve the challenges we face in our world, but they are being overlooked and ignored. We are the agency that works with young people so they can lead in solving those challenges. Whether that means supporting communities to end child marriage or prevent HIV, we work with young people to change their lives and the lives of people in their communities. Our programmes are genuinely life-changing, but can’t do any of this without talented, creative individuals at every level of our organisation.

In Sierra Leone, Restless Development has operated at the invitation of the government since 2005, working with and for young people to help the country rebuild from civil war. When Ebola broke out in 2014, it was Restless Development that worked with the next generation of young people – including 3,000 social mobilisers – to reach and build trust with communities across half the country, playing a critical role as the country put an end to the disease.

Now, after 2018 elections committed the country to a new national trajectory, Restless Development is working with hundreds of young leaders across the country to unlock the power and agency that exists within communities, strengthen the provision of key services, and build a new future for Sierra Leone. In 2019, Restless Development Sierra Leone is scaling up significantly, and is likely to more than double the scale of its operations with the delivery of two major new programmes.

ABOUT the role

We are seeking a dynamic and talented individual to lead our work on people, performance and safeguarding at Restless Development Sierra Leone. The People and Performance Manager will work closely with the Head of Hub to strengthen the systems, tools and procedures for overseeing people (human resources), organisational performance (quality assurance) and safeguarding at the Hub. Working primarily through other staff and performance managers across the Hub, the work of the People and Performance Manager will ultimately impact significantly on the quality of experience of hundreds of young leaders (volunteers) across Sierra Leone working on Restless Development’s programmes, as well as over 75 staff across the Hub’s Freetown, Bo and Makeni offices.

As an important member of the Hub’s Management Team, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to help shape the direction of the organisation through Restless Development Sierra Leone’s People Plan and by excelling against global Key Performance Indicators, as well as by contributing to the overall management and leadership of the agency in Sierra Leone.

To excel in this exciting role, the successful candidate will have proven experience in human resources, exceptional people skills, and some previous knowledge and experience of strengthening performance systems and safeguarding. They will be particularly passionate about youth-led development and seeing Restless Development’s values brought to life. They will bring energy and dynamism to whatever they do, and will be excited about getting stuck into an organisation-wide role that is as flexible as it is demanding.
