The day to day operation of Restless Development is led by our Senior Management Team which is comprised of our Chief Executive Officer, Chief Operating Officer and 6 International Directors.

Nik Hartley OBE, CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICEr (CEO)
Nik Hartley is the CEO of Restless Development – a global leader in placing young people at the forefront of local and global development processes.
Nik is a qualified development educationalist, with two decades of both hands-on and executive leadership in youth-focused and youth-led programming and policy-influence. Nik has lived and worked alongside young people in southern Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean for extensive periods of his adult life.

Perry Maddox, Interim Chief Executive Officer (CEO) (PATERNITY COVER) / CHIEF OPERATING Officer (COO)
With over a decade of experience in international development spanning Latin America, Africa, Asia, Europe and the USA, Perry serves as Restless Development’s Chief Operating Officer and current Interim Chief Executive Offier.
Prior to Restless Development, Perry worked with at-risk youth in Nicaragua, community development in Dominican Republic, Panama and Costa Rica, and with volunteer-led development in Paraguay. Perry joined Restless Development in 2009 as the Country Director in Uganda before taking a roving consultant role on the Senior Management Team in 2011. He began his new role as COO in London in October 2012.

GEMMA GRAHAM, Interim Chief Operating Officer (COO) (PATERNITY COVER)
Gemma joined Restless Development in March 2011 as Head of the Investment & Partnerships Unit, with a role focused on managing our fundraising and marketing team. She also previously worked as the Director of Investment & Partnerships, and is currently the Interim Chief Operating Officer. Gemma has over 10 years’ experience in the international development sector focused specifically on fundraising and partnership development.
Gemma started her career at HTSPE, a private sector development consultancy before going on to support cutting edge policy research at The ODI; specialised in Trust & Foundation fundraising at Christian Aid and set up a Business Development Unit for SNV based in Hanoi, Vietnam.

Kate Muhwezi, People and Performance Director
Kate heads our International People and Performance team based in London to support our global staffbase of over 300.
Having volunteered in Uganda with Restless Development in 2001, Kate joined as a staff member in 2003 working first with the Programmes and then the Finance team in our Uganda office. In 2010, Kate joined our head office as International Head of Finance before being appointed as our People and Performance Director in 2013.

BEN SHEAHAN, Finance Director
Ben is our International Finance Director and leads the global finance team to provide efficient and value for money services.
Having worked in commercial finance for a number of years, Ben left his role at Lloyds Bank in 2007 and moved with his young family to join Restless Development in Tanzania. Ben worked in our Iringa office as Finance Manager for 2 ½ years before returning to the UK. He continued to support the International Finance team in a consultative role until 2014 when he was appointed as Finance Director. Ben lives in Bristol and works from the London office 2 days a week.

Ed Francis, Director OF PROGRAMMES
Ed leads our International Programmes team based in London and Delhi.
Ed started his Restless journey as a volunteer in Uganda in 1999. From there he went on to help set up Restless Development’s operations in Zambia, where he stayed for 5 years, leading the Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning Team, before taking on the role of Country Director in Sierra Leone. On return to the UK, Ed became an International Trustee for Restless Development whilst completing a Masters in Development Policy and Management. He re-joined Restless Development’s leadership team as International Director of Programmes in 2012.

KATIE ROWBERRY, INTERNATIONAL DIRECTOR (MATERNITY COVEr)
ALEX KENT, INTERNATIONAL DIRECTOR OF STRATEGY
Alex joined Restless Development in 2014 as the UK Director, and changed job in 2016. Prior to that she worked at WaterAid, Save the Children, Global Campaign for Education, Robin Hood Tax campaign and Comic Relief. She's a geographer by training and a feminist by heart. She spent most of the last decade in South Africa and Kenya before moving back to London.
