On Thursday 3rd March, stars from the world of media, sports and arts battled for a Grayson Perry ceramic cat, company pride, and to be crowned champions of current affairs knowledge by hosts Sophie Raworth and Tom Bradby, who managed to put their traditional BBC/ITV rivalry to one side for the night.

Founded in 2007 by BBC presenter Martha Kearney and Restless Development’s patron Baroness Anne Jenkin, the Ultimate News Quiz - supported by the Premier League - has been raising funds for Restless Development supporting young people around the world to lead change, and Action for Children to support and speak out for the UK’s most vulnerable and neglected children.

The rivalry between the different TV stations was intense...

...including bidding for one of the most sought after prizes in the history of the Quiz: an 8-inch ceramic specially donated by renowned artist Grayson Perry.

The success of the bigger purpose of the event became clear by the end of the night, as we passed the grand total of £700,000 (and counting) raised for the work of Restless Development and Action for Children’s work, which was showcased to a hushed Great Hall.

But who won? For the first time in ten years, Five News held on to the title they had won last year - by one point.

Thank you to all our sponsors: Premier League for ensuring that every penny raised in the quiz goes direct to the charities, Pernod Ricard for the champagne reception, along with Green Tomato Cars, and our goody bag contributors Cafe Direct, Vitabiotics, Sky, Portlebay Popcorn, Neals Yard Remedies, Chocolate and Love, and Camelot.
