Restless Development would like to say

THANK YOU and  WELL DONE to Jim Sewell

and the team from Alternative Networks

for raising over £20,000 for us!

Between Saturday 8th to Sunday 16th September 2012, the CEO of Alternative Networks, Jim Sewell along with 7 members of  the UK staff; Matt Cross, Craig Moore, Max Homer, Steve Dono, Adam Dauer, Martin Thompson, Leon Brydges, Giles Agar and Nick Franizi an external friend, took part in the Deloitte Ride Across Britain challenge to raise money for Restless Development.

The challenge, which started in June 2010, involves individuals from various walks of life; companies, charities and cycling enthusiast cycling from one end of Britain to the other. The route starts from Land’s End in Cornwall to John O’Groats, one of the remotest parts of Scotland. It is referred to as ‘the ultimate UK cycling challenge’ so anyone who completes it deserves recognition and a HUGE congratulations!

Alternative Networks is one of the UK‘s leading independent telecommunications service providers. CEO, Jim Sewell volunteered with Restless Development in Tanzania back in 1989 and has been a Trustee since 2009.

Below is a summary of the incredible journey from Jim Sewell;

"970 miles in 9 days, over 42,000 feet climbed, some serious highs and lows, very little sleep, pain in places I didn't know existed, some amazing days and some truly horrendous times but we made it and weirdly enjoyed it

Day 1 started in very hot weather at Land’s End with steep and endless hills with 2 more days of this to follow. Days 4-6 were flatter and much wetter but we were joined by a number of the Olympians and Paralympians who were inspirational. Day 7 Hamilton to Fort William was without doubt one of the hardest things I have ever done. 134 miles into a gale force wind all the way, rain, hail and it took us 12.5 hours to finish. The fact that each night was spent in small tents in normally muddy fields didn’t make it easier but did add to the team bonding!

Luckily we had 2 fantastic days to finish with some sun, the wind behind us and beautiful scenery. Fantastic emotion coming over the finish line and to raise money as well makes it all worthwhile "
