International UK ZAMBIA
With the Zambian elections approaching on August 11th 2016, and 66% of the population under 25, young Zambians encouraging each other to raise their voice were featured on UK TV on BBC1, on the BBC's televised fundraising event Sport Relief on Friday 18th 2016.
With the Zambian elections coming up in August, young Zambians are encouraging one another to raise their voice through weekly radio shows with our partner KNC Radio and BBC Media Action, and ‘Advocates for Action’ who increase access to information, generate discussion, and motivate each other to take action on the decisions that affect their lives.
More about Ishiwi
ISHIWI is a youth-led accountability initiative which combines the skills of Restless Development and BBC Media Action to address the priorities of young people and enable them to participate in key democratic processes and to hold decision makers to account at local and national levels.

Capitalising on the expertise of Restless Development and BBC Media Action respectively, we are using two key approaches: a youth-led peer to peer approach, empowering young people to become ‘Advocates for Action’ (A4A) and building the capacity of fellow young people; as well as media to increase access to information, generate discussion to engage citizens, and ultimately motivate them to take action and be more involved in the decisions that affect their lives.

Based in Kabwe District in Central Province, activities include schools-based clubs, workshops and competitions; training for traditional leaders and other governance-focused CSOs; Indaba dialogue events at community-level between young people and their local leaders; collecting young people’s voices to inform weekly Ishiwi radio shows run with our media partner, KNC Radio; outdoor events, including roadshows and radio broadcasts. A key focus in 2016 is on raising young people’s awareness of the upcoming general election, with support from the Electoral Commission of Zambia.
