The midwives4all campaign event was held on 29th April 2015 at George Clinic in George Compound in Lusaka. With support of the Embassy of Sweden through their Global ‘Midwives4all’ campaign, and in collaboration with the Ministry of Health, Ministry of Community Development, Mother and Child Health, UNFPA, Clinton Health Access Initiative and BBC Media Action, the Midwives Association of Zambia (MAZ).
The purpose of the half day event was to bring together midwives, adolescents, community members, policy makers and donors to discuss the role of midwives in reducing maternal mortality with a focus on adolescents.
The event pursued to explore challenges and opportunities for engagement of midwives with adolescents given the high levels of teenage pregnancies. It also stressed out the importance and the pivot role midwives plays when it comes to family planning, HIV/AIDS related cases and the need for emergency care when complication arise pre and post natal.
