Restless Development is excited to share a new opportunity for young people and youth-focused organisations to contribute to the post-2015 development framework.
On 17th February 2014, the President of the General Assembly established the ‘The Global Partnership for Youth in the Post-2015 Agenda’. Facilitated by the Secretary General’s Envoy on Youth, it aims to bring together a wide spectrum of stakeholders to be a unified voice for youth priorities in the post-2015 development agenda.
A crowdsourcing platform has been launched for young people to share and discuss their ideas for approaching five key themes. These themes were identified as priorities by young voters in the MyWorld surveys; including Education, Employment and Entrepreneurship, Health, Good Governance and Peace and Stability.
Restless Development has been supporting young people to participate in the development of the post-2015 framework and, similarly through our consultations, identified governance, healthcare and education as key priorities for young people (see Youth Voices on a post-2015 World). We strongly encourage young people to contribute their ideas, opinions and experiences to the platform as it is a valuable space to formulate concrete ideas to inform high-level discussions on the next development framework.
To get you started, here are some of the questions proposed by the Partnership:
• What are the key challenges and opportunities to young people’s participation in politics, governance institutions and decision-making?
• What are the challenges and opportunities to accessing quality health care and living a healthy life in your country?
• What are the main challenges and opportunities to accessing quality education (formal, non-formal and informal) in your country?
Participants have until the 25th April 2014 to respond with ideas, questions and comments. The results will then be collated into an outcome document, which will be open to comments in May before final revisions are made. The final outcome of the crowdsourcing will result in ‘Youth Voices’, containing the consolidated proposals that the Partnership will advocate for in the post-2015 discussions and will become the basis of discussions at the ECOSOC Youth Forum in June.
