In June, Restless Development delivered a residential training workshop in Kenya for the grantees of our partner, the MTV Staying Alive Foundation (SAF).
SAF’s grantees are all youth-led organisations with a shared goal of tackling HIV and AIDS in their communities in innovative and creative ways. Our role is to support them through a training and capacity development programme that includes residential workshops and mentorship. This 10-day workshop in Kenya was attended by 25 participants representing 13 organisations from across 10 countries.
The aim of the workshop in Kenya was to build the capacity of SAF grantee organisations to plan, deliver, measure and communicate their work more effectively, through the development of participants’ knowledge and skills in five key areas. These included Organisational Strategy & Planning, Monitoring & Evaluation, Financial Management, Resource Mobilisation & Partnerships and Media & Marketing. The workshop was energetic, practical and participant-focused and enabled participants to draw on their own experiences, learn from each other and use that to inform their own learning.
The training was received extremely positively, with 92% of participants reporting that their expectations had been met. The workshop ended with participants working with their Restless mentor to develop a 6-month Action Plan to support participants to share their new knowledge and skills with their organisations to in turn enhance their organisational capacity to deliver their work.
