Last week saw the launch of the #IF campaign. A star studded event was held at Somerset House, London. Lauren Laverne hosted the evening attended by nearly 2000 people (despite the cold) and Restless Development attended with 8 of our volunteers.
Bill Nighy, Olympic athlete Mark Foster, Baaba Maal and Harry Potter’s Bonnie Wright are just a few of the people who stood up and expresses the urgency and importance that this campaign be successful in its mission.
A campaign with a simple name comes with an equally simple question:
If the world produces enough food for everyone, why doesn’t everyone have enough food?
The solution is just as simple
In June 2013 the G8 will be meeting in the UK and #IF we can get them to agree to move forward on 4 actions we will be on the way to seeing 2013 be the year that we end world hunger for good. These 4 simple actions are:
1. AID - Enough Food For Everyone IF we give life-saving aid to stop children dying from hunger and help the poorest families feed themselves.
2. LAND - Enough Food For Everyone IF we stop poor farmers being forced off their land, and we grow crops for food, not fuel.
3. TAX - Enough Food For Everyone IF governments stop big companies dodging tax in poor countries, so millions of people can free themselves from hunger.
4. TRANSPARENCY - Enough Food For Everyone IF governments and big companies are honest about their actions that stop people getting enough food.
The campaign is being backed by over 100 organations, including Restless Development, to make sure we can get as many people to sign up and have the G8 hear what we have been telling them for years. Just one week in and at the time of writing this 40,200 people have added their voice.
How we are getting involved
Restless Development is part of the Youth & Schools Working Group for the #IF Campaign. This means we will be supporting youth engagement and strategy plans. We are also part of the Youth Project Team, this means we will be aiding in the design and delivery of regional workshops for 100 young people throughout the UK.
How you can be involved
To be a part of the campaign and to make 2013 a land mark year in the worlds history, make sure you sign up to the campaign now at enoughfoodif.org and make this the year that we end world hunger.
