Over recent months, our Youth Engagement Team has been working with hard-to-reach young people to improve their knowledge of HIV, AIDS and sexual health, and helping them to create a World AIDS Day event to reach out to, educate and inspire their peers.

This so called safe4life event was held on Thursday 1st December at the Stephen Lawrence Centre in Lewisham, South London. It was the culmination of 6 weeks of training in sexual health, the Millennium Development Goals, event management and presentation skills.

Mimi, one of the young people involved in creating the event said afterwards:

“We’ve been raising awareness about HIV to a lot of young people in our area, and today we held an event and it was really good. We’re pleased with the outcome of people that came and the messages that we sent out and the response we got from people.”

Alongside this event, the Youth Engagement Team also supported schools around the UK to hold their own World AIDS Day activities. These ranged from assemblies to Zumba classes and saw students across the country raising the awareness of their peers about HIV and AIDS.

We are the Youth Collective. If you believe in the power of young people, join our movement.
