After three months of advertising and multiple rounds of interviews led by our Trustees – supported by our country programmes, young staff and the International Senior Management Team we are very pleased to announce that a decision and appointment has been made for our new Chief Executive, to take on the mantle from Eric Levine who leaves us at the end of November.

It is with great excitement that we announce that Nicholas Hartley, our current Deputy Chief Executive, was selected unanimously by our Board of Trustees, and that he has agreed to take on the post starting in November.

Nik Hartley

Nik has been with Restless Development since 1998. He was based in Zambia for half of that time leading the direction of our programmes across Africa and Asia including the set-up of our flagship programmes in Sierra Leone and Zambia, and more recently as Deputy Chief Executive based in the UK.  Nik has been in international development his whole working life, with a focus on community development, education and young people. Before his work with Restless Development he gained long term programmatic experience in Bolivia, Guyana and Jamaica.

Nik says that his appointment as Chief Executive “is the second most exciting moment in my life - the first was getting married [in Zambia two years ago!]. I feel very honoured indeed to have been offered this fantastic opportunity.  Restless Development has built into such a dynamic organisation and leading agency in its field, that the opportunity to take it forward to continue its brilliant work and fulfil its extraordinary potential is one I relish.”

Our Chairman, Martin Hayman says “We are extremely pleased with the outcome, and in no doubt that we have selected the right person to take up the reins of Restless Development.” You can read more from Martin in the official announcement letter here.

We are very excited to be entering a new phase at Restless Development with Nik when he takes up the reins in November. We will also wish Eric well for the exciting future endeavours that lie ahead – knowing he will always be part of the Restless Development family! We will certainly be asking him for more thoughts on his time with Restless Development in due course.  Watch this space..
