ICS-International Citizen Service

ics

ICS is a global volunteering programme which facilitates bringing over young volunteers from UK to work alongside national volunteers to respond to the most pressing issues faced by young people in a community. This initiative, launched by the British Prime Minister and funded by the British Department for International Development (DFID), gives thousands of young people the chance to serve in the fight against global poverty.

This year, 92 Volunteers (46 from UK and 46 from Nepal) participated in the January and May cycles of ICS. These two cycle programmes were implemented in rural communities of Sindhuli district from January 2016 to July 2016. Through Rupantaran financial literacy, livelihood options and life skills sessions, ICS volunteers have reached 1500 youths in school and out of school. The volunteers organised different trainings on smart saver, enterprise and vocational training which encouraged youth to develop new skills, to develop saving habits, to form clubs, and to be confident and embark on their dreams. One of the major highlights was the ‘Keep Khalte Clean’ project, which is initiated by the ICS Volunteers and owned by the community; for the cleanliness and sanitation of Khalte. The ICS experience has been a challenging yet wonderful learning experience through which volunteers have made life-changing impacts in the community.
